Spurs make Zaniolo contact

According to a report by asromalive.it, Tottenham Hotspur have made contact over potentially signing Roma attacker Nicolo Zaniolo as the Lilywhites re-ignite interest in a familiar face.

The Lowdown: Levy makes ‘dizzying’ 2020 offer…

In recent seasons, Spurs links to Zaniolo have been fairly prevalent, with a Corriere dello Sport report back in 2020 detailing that the club, and by extension chairman Daniel Levy, made a ‘dizzying offer’ for the player.

He’s also been called former fan favourite Christian Eriksen’s ‘perfect long term replacement’ by sections of the English press.

The Lilywhites have arguably failed to find an heir to the Dane since his move away from north London over two years ago, yet it appears Tottenham and transfer chief Fabio Paratici have re-ignited their interest in Zaniolo for Antonio Conte.

The Latest: Spurs make contact…

As per asromalive.it, Tottenham have carried out ‘exploratory surveys’ over signing Zaniolo as they make contact in the form of an enquiry.

However, they’re not the only ones to have done so, with Premier League rivals Liverpool and Man United also falling into this bracket.

The Verdict: Ideal target?

According to reports out of Italy, Conte is actually a big fan of Zaniolo, with Corriere dello Sport (via Sport Witness) recently claiming he ‘really likes’ the playmaker.

As well as this, Zaniolo has attracted real praise from members of the media. Football writer and podcast host Zach Lowy, for instance, has branded the Italian a ‘lethal playmaker’ as well as ‘superb’ and ‘physically imposing’ (Twitter).

However, his ACL problems in recent years and potential €45 million (£37.4m) price tag could make this move a contestable one even despite his obvious quality.

Amid the debate surrounding his possible contract extension in Rome, it will be interesting to see how this transfer unfolds.
